Northside Hospital Gwinnett in Lawrenceville officially opened its newly built emergency department during late October. It includes a redesigned trauma area along with more exam rooms and observation beds.

Being one of Georgia’s leading healthcare providers and having many different locations in Lawrenceville, Duluth, Atlanta, Canton, and Cumming, the Northside organization is very devoted to providing the best for the people in the community. Aside from opening their newly improved emergency department, they also have begun to work on a new patient tower and are continuing to strengthen already established community partnerships.

This expansion stems from the hospital’s plan to provide more access to healthcare resources in the Gwinnett area of Georgia. When interviewed in the article “Northside Hospital Gwinnett doubles size of its Emergency Department, receives approval to build 10-story patient tower”, Debbie Mitcham, the president of Northside Hospital in Duluth and Gwinnett, stated, “Northside believes that access to care is of the utmost importance and realized that a county with close to a million residents needed a bigger emergency department footprint.”

With the continuously growing number of people in the area, it is only right to provide as much healthcare as possible. Mitcham backs this up and exclaimed in the same article, “With the completion of this project, emergency room capacity will double, thus increasing the ability to not only take care of more Gwinnett County residents but take care of them more efficiently.”

A new patient tower is also underway as previously mentioned, which will open in 2023. It will include a five-story, 143,828 square-foot medical office building. The building will include outpatient imaging, ambulatory surgery, and other key things.

Looking at an opinion from a person who has been involved in the medical field for over 20+ years, and has worked at Northside Gwinnett previously, Duellyn Henry gave her thoughts on the expansion.

“I feel like it’s a great thing that’s happening for the hospital. The expansion is definitely a much-needed upgrade, and will allow the hospital to thrive,” said Duellyn. She also went on to say, “It’s also great to see how much the place where I worked at grow and grow.”

This expansion and plans for the hospital are a great addition to Gwinnett!
