Community service and volunteerism are investments in your community and the people who live in it. Becoming a volunteer allows you to give back. Volunteering has career-boosting benefits. It looks good on your resume, allows you to develop and refine new skills, and also presents an opportunity to meet new people. A volunteer experience section is the part of your resume where you include any work that you’ve completed. This section is a great way to stand out as a job candidate. It shows you’re community-minded and gives you the chance to demonstrate your professional skills. When you’re already working, volunteering can also advance your career through reinforcing skills you’re learning at work, developing new skills, and giving you another way to build leadership skills. According to Monster.com in an article called “Volunteering Can Help You Get A Job” volunteers have a 27% higher likelihood of finding a job after being out of work than non-volunteers. Volunteers without a high school diploma have a 51% higher likelihood of finding employment.

Types Of Volunteering 

There are all different types of volunteering such as agriculture, children and youth, community development, education, environment, health, wildlife protection, and women’s empowerment. But in these broad categories, there is specific volunteer work. For example in education, you can be an education support volunteer doing things such as helping teachers and staff with the volunteer project and helping students with homework. There are also many different organizations you can work within all of the categories listed such as: VolunteerMatch, American Red Cross, United Way, Habitat for Humanity, The Salvation Army, Big Brothers and Sisters of America, SCORE Association, and American Cancer Society.

Volunteer Hours Opportunities

There are many volunteer opportunities offered to high school students in Gwinnett county such as Walk By Faith Fashion Expo 5: Love, Family, Spirit, Grace & Attitude, with Girls, Empowered Mentored & Supported. This will be held in Lilburn, Georgia, on January 15, 2021. Another opportunity is Be a Hospice Volunteer with PruittHealth Hospice ATL in Norcross. Or Youth and Adult Program Volunteer in Norcross with Project Access, Inc in Norcross. Volunteer opportunities also being held are Kit creations with Helping Mamas Inc., which is a virtual opportunity. These are some of the many volunteer opportunities all around our community.
