Movies are something that everyone can enjoy- they can make you laugh, cry and long for love. There are many aspects that go into a beautiful movie. An outstanding movie has artistic cinematography, a captivating plot and an amazing music soundtrack. Soundtracks may be the last thing you think about while watching a movie, but they add a lot to the tone and mood of the story.

Guardians of the Galaxy, a popular movie that is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has one of the best soundtracks to date. The entire soundtrack revolves around a mixtape that was given to the main character, Peter Quill, by his mother when he was younger. Peter Quill treasures the item and carries it around throughout the entire film. The audience is able to hear the songs that make up the mixtape as the movie progresses. Most of these songs are played at an appropriate moment. “Fooled Around And Fell In Love” by Elvin Bishop, for example, is played when Peter Quill talks to Gamora, a potential love interest for him. The song choice enhances the feeling of intimacy between the two characters and allows the viewer to make note of the chemistry.  The Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack is perfect for classic rock and pop lovers. It consists of songs like “Cherry Bomb” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” – the perfect feel good playlist.

500 Days of Summer has an excellent soundtrack filled with all kinds of genres. Just like every good film, the music directors behind the scenes of 500 Days of Summer made sure to play certain songs at the perfect moment. In one particular part of the movie, the main character, Tom Hansen, is invited to a party thrown by the woman he is in love with, Summer. During the scene, the screen splits into two panels. One panel is labeled “Expectations” and the other “Reality.” “Hero” by Regina Spektor plays in the background: a spectacular choice for this specific moment. The song intensifies the feeling of sadness and longing. It truly exhibits the feeling one experiences when their expectations fail to meet reality. The entire 500 Days of Summer soundtrack is filled with relevant music that everyone can enjoy. Songs from The Smiths and Simon and Garfunkel will surely make an impact on any listener.
